As part of our Meet the Members series, we asked Gill about her experience of training at JW Fitness.
Please explain a little about yourself and why you chose to train with JW Fitness.
Never a dull day bouncing between my paid job in social care, to being a primary support for my dad with dementia, to my side hustle as a qualified Reiki Practitioner.
I chose JW Fitness because the trial was only 1 week. I took it as a quick kill or cure option. I'm now almost a year in and I feel so much better.
What, if any, were your reservations before starting training with us at JW Fitness?
Huge gym anxiety about all sorts, some arising from previous experience in commercial gyms. I was nervous about being out of the gym for 18-24 months, not being able to get through a warm up, not having the right posture, being at my highest weight ever, being in a potentially competitive environment, being the oldest in a class of teenyboppers, or being next to a gang of swearing youth hogging equipment and having to wear leggings/lycra.
How did we help you eliminate any reservations you had?
John took me through my induction and I survived. No huge pressure in week 1, no daily targets of calories, or water intake, no weekly weigh in, no monthly bicep measuring. Then the big one - no half naked before/after photos for social media. Plus no mirrors or posing points.
One of the team would work out the exercise routine and demonstrate - every time. I just had to show up and count my reps. There was enough equipment for everyone and it was all in good order. Everyone was kind and considerate with each other.
What are your biggest achievements since training at JW Fitness?
I have benefitted physically; I'm much stronger, can walk without getting out of breath; my joints ache less, I can carry my shopping easier.
I have built confidence with equipment and routines to be able to continue when on holiday.
Mental health has improved hugely; I was previously overwhelmed by a mix of carer stress, work stress, bereavement and menopause. Two sessions per week help me to cut off, sleep better and lift my motivation..
What keeps you coming back to train with us?
The JW team are very welcoming and most clients come on their own. The client base is all ages, equally mixed male/female and a range of fitness levels.
I've never felt out of my depth; there is always guidance and support. The routines are so well thought out. It is encouragement without pressure.
On my toughest weeks, I just focus on showing up and working the best I can. I always leave feeling motivated by the team and having achieved a small win. The weekly email check-ins are an opportunity to air your thoughts and I always get a positive and encouraging response back.

Yes absolutely. The semi PT option is a fantastic opportunity to receive the best coaching, in person, at an affordable price.
There are so many session times available to attend at different times of the day, to fit around other commitments.
It is always clean, tidy and orderly. I've never walked into the gym or out again without one of the team speaking to me like a person.
